I'm Jenny…a dahlia loving, urban living, garden to table flower grower. I grew up in a small rural farming community surrounded by corn fields and hog farms. From an early age, I remember placing seeds into the meticulous garden my dad tilled each year and helping my grandma serve homemade donuts in the barn where my grandpa sold Pioneer Seed to farmers for their yearly bumper crop.  Gardening has always been a hobby.  There’s something therapeutic, even relaxing, about digging in the dirt.

It wasn’t until I moved to my current suburbia bliss that I found dahlias.  For a few years, I scrolled through the many gorgeous images of dahlia blooms online and in 2021 I came across a must-grow dahlia variety with the same name as my grandma. I was so excited to get this started, but how; how the heck do I grow this thing? I quickly googled to find a local resource, and you aren't going to believe it, but there was a dahlia club that met monthly just 2 doors down! The first meeting I attended was hands-on, learning to wake up tubers and propagation. They even gave me a potted tuber already sprouting. And soon, more grass was tilled for planting blooms.  The dahlias had taken over. 😊 I started showing dahlias throughout the Midwest, became a show judge, and found myself sharing over 100 bouquets of the many flowers I grow with friends, family, nursing homes, schools, and libraries each year since.  

Joining the club was the best thing I did! I encourage you to put down the facebook app and instead, find a state or local dahlia society/club to join and make the connection - they have the knowledge of growing dahlias in your region.  These are your peeps, your dahlia mentors, and will be an invaluable resource to learn!  Go For the Dahlias - Stay for the People.  This is my #1 piece of advice for you.
